First Year Experience

Student talking outside next to a statue of Abe LincolnThis course, EDU 117, is taken by first-time freshmen at Lincoln College.  This course is designed to help first-time college students through the transition from high school to college. The class is intended to cover topics relevant to the classroom transition as well as the non-curricular adjustments that all first-year college students encounter.

Topics covered in FYE include the following:

  • Learning styles and strategies
  • Study skills and organization
  • Career and transfer options                                                     
  • Critical and creative thinking
  • Alcohol and drug awareness                                                    
  • Gender and diversity issues
  • Communication skills and conflict management  
  • Campus awareness
  • Coping, stress and physical/mental health
