Transfer Students: Status Report 2007 Executive Summary

Analysis of transfer students to other Illinois institutions of higher learning provides an indirect measure of how well we are fulfilling our student learning mission.   Results have also proven useful in strategic planning, as we identify opportunities to retain our Associate graduates in our own four-year programs.  This year, trends have been monitored over a seven year period.

Results indicate that

  • About 85% of our graduates intend to transfer to another school;
  • The total number of our transfers in other Illinois schools is holding steady, at an average of 227 students/year.
  • The number of schools receiving students from Lincoln College is also steady at around 47 institutions;
  • The percent of our graduates who transfer to other schools is fairly constant, with trends reflecting the fact that we now retain some students in our own four-year programs.
  • The number of graduates going to five key regional public institutions (Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern and University of Illinois Springfield) is also steady, representing about a third of our transfer students.
  • The most sought transfer schools continue to be this set of regional public schools, plus some private schools (Bradley University for the most recent group of graduates.)
