Lynx Post Second Win

A strong first half carried the Lincoln College women's basketball team to a 69-53 victory over Elgin at Lincoln Saturday afternoon.   The Lynx are 2-4 after the victory while Elgin drops to 2-1.

Lincoln College connected on 50 percent of its field goal attempts (15-30) in the first half and had just six turnovers.  As a result, the Lynx held a commanding 40-19 lead at intermission.

Elgin turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and the Lynx had a total of 18 turnovers and made 11 of 26 shots from the floor.   Elgin never got untracked as they were able to connect on just 14 of 35 field goals in the second half after shooting 9 of 32 the first half.

Lincoln College Coach Carol Wilson said, "I thought we played well the first half.  Our defensive pressure was good, especially containing Kate Marchewka who had been their big gun in the first two games.   Our aggressiveness and intensity was the big difference in the first half.   Erica (Ernst) played a very good game.   We got a little sloppy in the second half but at least we played one good half of basketball."

Elgin got the first basket of the game, however, the Lynx ran off the next seven points and never trailed again.  With Lincoln leading 11-8, the Lynx ran off 11 unanswered points to stretch the lead to 22-8 with 9:28 left in the first half.   Elgin then made its only real run of the game with seven straight only to have the Lynx outscore the Spartans 12-2 over the next seven minutes.   Elgin never closed the gap to less than 12 points in the second half.

Ernst led the Lincoln College attack with 20 points while Kanisha Pettis added 14.  None of the Elgin players were able to reach double figures.
