Lincoln, Ill. –The Lincoln College volleyball team is joining in the fight against breast cancer. All week student-athletes and coaches are collecting donations to benefit both the Breast Cancer Research Center and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
The team began raising money on behalf of breast cancer research in 2006. Every year, they raise money during a special match. This year, donations are being collected by members of the volleyball team and the LC coaching staff. Donations are also being accepted at the main information desk in the Hart Sciences Building. The fundraiser will culminate on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. during their home game against Lincoln Land Community College in the Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium.
During this special matchup, the Lady Lynx will don special pink jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Symptoms Awareness month . When announcing the collection drive, Coach Mark Tippett asked the entire campus and community to rally behind the team’s efforts saying, “Breast cancer is a devastating illness, but we can all make a difference. Let’s pack the gym. We want to see a sea of pink in the stands!”
