Cross Country Stats 2008

9/27/08 The men’s and women’s cross country team competed at the 27th Annual Brissman-Lundeen Invite over the weekend. There were 38 teams there representing the NCAA D1, NCAA D2, NJCAA and NAIA. The men’s team placed 17th beating 9 four year schools along the way. The team was one again lead by fresh Greg Staley with a time of 27:33 (67th). Others in the top five were Stafan Huber (117th), Craig Hall (135th), Evan Ehrhardt (155th) and Matt Albert (156th). The ladies placed 20th and beat 6 four year schools along the way. The women were once again led by freshman Eliza Cropp with a time of 25:23 (98th). Others in the top five were Elle Reiner (136th), Maddie McGuire(172nd), Melanie Sovereen (217th) and Mandie Hurd (253rd). Coach Herron said,” I was very pleased with today’s results. It was a very warm day and they ran hard. The men ran a great pack race and the women battled well for a 6k race (they normally race 5k). This should motivate us going into our break. I know we are going to keep on improving.” The Lynx will not compete for the next two weeks.

The men’s and women’s cross country team competed at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships over the weekend. Eliza Cropp (87th) and Elle Renier (104) both ran their way to the top 10 all time list with times of 20:51 and 21:21. Others running in the top 5 this week were Maddie McGuire (133rd),Melanie Sovereen (172nd) and Mandie Hurd (185th). The Lady Lynx came in ahead of four year schools such as Principia, Millikin, Illinios College, Blackburn College and Eureka College. The men’s team was lead by Greg Staley (139th) with a time of 28:46. Others running in the top five for the Lynx were Stafan Huber (146th), Craig Hall (149th), Evan Kreiling (154th) and Matt Albert (177th). The Lynx finished ahead of four year schools such as Principia, Illinois College, Millikin, Blackburn and Eureka. Coach Herron said," This is such a great meet. I was very happy for Eliza and Elle making it on the top 10 list. The great thing is that it is still early in the year. We have to keep working hard in order to do the things that I know we are capable of doing as a team. We are looking forward to the Augustana meet this week. It is a huge meet and we have a history of running well there."

The cross country team will compete this Saturday at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island starting at 4 p.m.

9/13/08

The men’s and women’s cross country team competed at the 23rd Annual Bradley Invite over the weekend. The Lady Lynx placed 2nd out of five NJCAA schools. They were lead by freshman Elle Renier placing 31st. Others in the top five were Eliza Cropp 38th, Melanie Sovereen 56th, Maddie McGuire 57th and Mandie Hurd 91st. The men also placed 2nd out of five NJCAA schools. They were led by Greg Staley who placed 38th. Others running in the top five were Craig Hall 53rd, Stafan Huber 55th, Matt Albert 77th and Evan Kreiling 81st.

Coach Herron said, "I thought we did a good job today. It was a muddy mess out there and they did a good job of staying focused. I know that we will continue to get better, especially as the freshman learn how to run the longer races. Having Coach Lowe here has had a significant effect on their development.”

The cross country team will compete this Friday at the Illinois Intercollegiate Meet held at ISU Golf course starting at 4:30.

The men’s and women’s cross country team competed at the W.I.U. Early Bird Meet this weekend. There was no team score kept for this meet. The women were lead by Eliza Cropp (18th) for the second straight week. Others running in the top five were Elle Reiner (24th), Maddie McGuire (26th),Melanie Sovereen (33rd) and Courtney Pinaire (40th). The men were lead by Greg Staley, also for the second week in a row. Others running in the top five were, Craig Hall (20th),Matt Albert (26th), Evan Kreiling (31st) and Michael Nix (35th). Coach Herron said, "I thought we did a very good job today on both sides. I love the fact that we are racing against some D1 schools. It is only going to make us better as the year progresses. Our freshman are stepping up big time, especially since this was their first 6k for the women and 8k for the men. We are only going to get better."

The cross country team will next compete at the Bradley Invite on September 12.

8/29/08 The Lincoln College Men’s and Women’s Cross Countryteam got off to a fast start at the U of I Illini Challenge over the weekend. The team battled great competition and heat in their first meet of the season. The women placed 5th beating DACC, the only other two year school. Running in the top 5 for the Lady Lynx were Eliza Cropp(17:12), Elle Reiner(17:27), Maddie McGuire(18:03), Melainie Sovereen(18:39) and Cortney Pinaire(19:38). The men’s team also placed 5th. Running in the top 5 for the men were Greg Staley(21:20), Craig Hall(21:45), matt Albert(22:15), Shawn Vandolah (22:58) and Olanrewaju Mabodu (23:32). The team will next compete at W.I.U. at the Early Bird Meet held at Spring Lake.
