How to Apply for Financial Aid
Most financial aid is based on a determination of a family's financial
need. The exceptions are usually academic merit awards and outside
scholarship sources that the student applies for independently of
the College (although many of these aid funds will have a "financial
need" component as a part of eligibility determination).
All students should complete the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is a
federal application and is used to determine a family's expected
contribution toward educational costs. When the family's financial
expectation is subtracted from the anticipated college costs, the
financial need is determined.
The Federal Department of Education should make the FAFSA for the
2008-2009 school year available by January 1, 2008. You can access
the form at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
The Federal School Code for Lincoln College is 001709.
What Does the FAFSA Ask For?
The FAFSA asks for you (and, if applicable, your parents) to include
information from your 2007 federal tax return and personal assets.
What Happens After You File?
In a few weeks time, the Federal Processor will send you a Student
Aid Report (SAR). The SAR will list all of the answers you put on
the FAFSA, and may be used to make corrections or to update information
that was previously estimated by you.
Be sure to check that Lincoln College is listed on the SAR. If
the College is not, contact the Financial Aid Office immediately.
Lincoln College's Financial Aid Office will receive your FAFSA
data electronically from the Federal Processor. Upon receiving the
information, a financial aid award notice will be sent to you in
a matter of days. Any additional instructions will also be sent
with the award notice.
