Privacy and Confidentiality Statement
It is our belief at the McKinstry Library that privacy and confidentiality are a necessary and important right of all library patrons. Privacy is a Constitutional right that is essential to our First Amendment rights of free thought, speech and association. A lack of privacy and confidentiality can deter patrons from accessing the materials they need. Patrons of the McKinstry Library can be assured of the following:
- The library does keep records of items that are currently checked out. However we do not keep records of items that were previously checked out and returned.
- Library staff are prohibited from revealing patron information to other patrons.
- Library staff are forbidden to access patron information for non-work related reasons.
This statement is based on guidelines produced by the American Library Association. More information can be obtained by through the ALA Privacy Toolkit.
