LC Men’s Soccer Defeat Lewis and Clark 2-0
September 15, 2013
Lincoln College (3-0) defeats Lewis and Clark (4-2) 2-0.
Coach Massena said, “We came out very strong today. Having several great chances and missing a breakaway. Lewis and Clark did very well and changing the pace of the game and putting us under a lot of pressure and the last 30 minutes the game was mostly theirs. Daniel Martinez came up huge for us in goal having 7 saves for us and allowing 0 goals in the first half. Lewis and Clark have several very dynamic players and they caused us a lot of issues. We also had to change our style of play due to the size of the field. We were lucky to get out at half 0-0. We had a good discussion at half time and how to break their lines of pressure and the boys did great at changing our tactics and we came out strong again scoring a goal when Peter Niederer sent a long diagonal to Gideon Moranga who hit a great one time shot from 20 yards put around the keeper. Despite hitting the crossbar 2 times we were unable to find another goal until the 15 minute when Peter Niederer hit a long driven shot from 30 yards out that the keeper had no chance at stopping.
I was very pleased at how the guys bounced back after a bad first half. We have to get better at putting a full 90 minutes together if we want to stay successful. The worst part of the day was that our starting left back broke his tibia early in the match and will be out the rest of the season.”
Lincoln plays their first home match Saturday, September 14 against Parkland at 10:00am.
