The Escapist
Ashley
Amigoni
Let’s start this poem on top a stage before
The girl goes out. She looks of height no more
Than five foot five with hair of frizzy brown.
From time to time a heavy weight pulls down
On her emotions, which can make her blue.
She wants a love to help her get on through.
In the day she cannot wait until the night
To see the stars up in the sky so bright.
It’s late, and now she’ll start to hope and dream
Of life not real, so strange as it may seem.
All night and day her nose is stuck in books.
She doesn’t care how a person thinks she looks.
Her mind will not decide on stuff she knows
About. A part of life she hopes she’ll outgrow.
Perhaps the arts might steer her to success,
To be onstage and entertain, no less.
Ironic, though, her nerves will get the best
Of her. She’ll shake, then sweat, and fail the test.
But now the curtain starts to rise of life,
And she has to go out. There may be strife
Out there, but she will see it through. A show
Is life and we all play a part we know.
