Eligibility
Students completing degree requirements during either the
previous or current semester may participate in Commencement
ceremonies in May.
Participation in the Commencement Ceremony is voluntary. However, students planning to participate in the Commencement Ceremony MUST complete and submit the Graduation Information form by the scheduled deadline. Graduation Information form - PDF
Honor Cords
Honor cords will be provided at the Honors Ceremony to
those students who are graduating with honors. For Associate
degree
students, with honors is defined by having a cumulative
grade point average between 3.50 and 4.0. For Bachelor
degree students, summa cum laude is classified as a 3.90
to 4.00 GPA. The GPA range for magna cum laude is 3.70
to 3.89. The cum laude range is 3.50 to 3.69.
Alcohol Policy
Graduates and their guests are advised that the possession
and consumption of alcohol at the Commencement Ceremony
are strictly prohibited. Students may be asked to open
their robes and be checked as they exit the line up area
for the processional. Any student failing to comply,
found to be in possession of alcohol, or intoxicated
will not be allowed to continue to participate in the
Commencement Ceremony.
Diplomas
Diplomas are mailed to the homes of graduates when all
requirements are met, usually ten to twelve weeks following
the Commencement Ceremony. Diploma covers are distributed
during the Commencement Ceremony. The mailing address
used will be the one listed as the Legal, Home Permanent
Address in the student database system. Please notify
the Registrar of any address changes.
Reception
A reception will be held immediately following the Commencement
Ceremony at Illinois State University’s Center for Performing Arts.
Lining up for the Processional
Students receiving a degree should report 45 minutes prior
to the ceremony to the Center for Performing Arts to check-in and pick
up their participation card. Volunteers will line up
graduates in order based on the degree program and alphabetical.
During the ceremony, the participation card containing
name, degree earned, and other information is to be handed
to the reader on stage, who will introduce each student
as they cross the stage to receive their diploma cover.
Disability Accommodations
