Forum Will Highlight Exciting Career Opportunities in of Criminal Justice

Normal, Ill. - Lincoln College- Normal’s Criminal Justice Studies program is hosting a seminar, “Working in the Criminal Justice System” on Thursday, Nov. 12,  The program, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m, in the Student Commons Building, on the campus at 715 W. Raab Road. Refreshments will be served.

“This forum, which will explore a variety of career opportunities, is a great first step for anyone considering careers in Criminal Justice, “said Dr. James Fagin, chair of the CJS program at Lincoln College. 

Adam Ghrist, Assistant State’s Attorney, will give the keynote address, “Developing Yourself for a Career in Criminal Justice.” His talk will be followed by brief presentations on specific career paths, as well as profiles of several law enforcement agencies, by graduating seniors in the program.

Mr. Ghrist works as an Assistant State’s Attorney at the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office.  He is currently assigned to the Drug and Gang Unit, specializing in prosecution of drug and gang related crimes.  He also handles all drug asset forfeitures for McLean County, and is a team member of McLean County’s Rehabilitative Drug Court program. 

Mr. Ghrist earned a BS in Politics and Government at Illinois State University. While an undergraduate student, he received the John S. Rendleman Award, which is given to the graduating student chosen as ‘most likely to make the greatest difference’ in the field of law.  He participated in the Student Government and Mock Trial.  In 2003, Adam and his fellow teammates won the American Mock Trial Associations’ National Championship Tournament and Adam was awarded All-American Attorney recognition. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate in Law at Southern Illinois University
