Student Spotlight - Lauren Turner
Lauren Turner is a senior at Lincoln College-Normal, majoring in Business Administration. Originally from Maryland, Turner graduated from Governor Thomas Johnson High School. She chose LCN because of its academic programs, convenient location, and the many benefits students enjoy like textbook rental and professional tutor service.
In time, she also came to appreciate her experiences as a student because of the small classes, challenging academic programs, and positive interactions with faculty who were challenging her to do her best work.
She describes her own success as the result of hard work saying, “My advice for other students is to put everything you have into your studies… Graduation may seem like a long way away, but life will be so much better once you get that degree.”
Favorite Professor or Class:
Professor Nancy Papp and Dr. Christine Winkler are two of my favorite teachers at LCN. Professor Papp teaches Spanish. She is the most positive, helpful, and enthusiastic teacher I have ever had. She really loves to teach and makes class fun. Dr. Winkler is another favorite. She challenges students to think critically. She really helped me take my work to the next level. I learned a lot and appreciate her pushing me to do my best work.
Advice to Students:
My advice for other students is to put everything you have into your studies and your schoolwork. Don't let people bring you down or discourage you from reaching your dreams. Go for what you want even if those closest to you don't support you the way they should. Be your own person...a leader...not a follower. You only have one life to live, so make the most out of every day.
Family:
My parents, William and Telicia Turner, are both college graduates and have always encouraged me to attend college as well. I have an older sister and a younger brother. My brother is about to enter his first year of college, and my older sister graduated from college in 2004.
Future Goals:
After graduation, I plan to earn my Master’s Degree. In five to 10 years, I would like to own my own business.
