89X and ‘The Cell’ provide local youth with a drug and alcohol free environment

Lincoln, IL – February 27, 2009- Lincoln College’s student run radio station WLNX FM 88.9 (89X) is teaming up with “The Cell,” a local not-for-profit organization that organizes rock concerts and other events that promote a drug and alcohol-free environment for area youth.

The next show will be on Friday, March 6th at the Lincoln VFW, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The headliner is “Doctor! Doctor!”, also featuring bands “Don’t Mess with Winkie”, “The Sacred Eternal,” “Silent Vengeance,” “Born Empty,” and “Cryptick.” 89X will be a co-sponsor for all of the organization’s concerts, providing free airtime for the concerts’ promotion, and on-air interviews with the bands that plan to perform.

WLNX General Manager John Malone thinks it’s a good partnership. “The Cell is an organization with a noble mission and anytime we can offer a fun alternative to drugs and alcohol for our area youth, that’s a positive for any community. We’re thrilled to be involved,” said Malone. “The Cell” co-founder Misty Bell of Lincoln echoed Malone’s statement and said she is thrilled to gain a media partner for local events. “89X is a popular station with area kids, so having them involved is something I am really looking forward to,” said Bell.

WLNX-FM features an “alternative rock” format that targets young adults, broadcasting 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. All on air personalities are students of Lincoln College. Listeners can find WLNX on the web at: www.wlnxradio.com.
