Lincoln, Ill. - Lincoln College is accepting applications for its newest scholarship, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholarship. The scholarship is open to any ethnic minority student, enrolled at or planning to attend Lincoln College. Students must have graduated from a Logan County high school with a minimum 2.0 grade point average to be considered eligible. Any student interested in applying, should contact Chris Steckmann, director of the Office of Financial Aid at 217.732.3155, Ext. 230 or send him an e-mail at csteckman@lincolncollege.edu.
The M.L.K., Jr. Scholarship is funded through ticket sales to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast. The event celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. King, and is coordinated along with the support of Rev. Glenn Shelton of the Second Baptist Church in Lincoln.
“A college education is part of the American dream. A dream echoed by Dr. King when he stated his own hope was that one day his children would be judged by the content of their character,” said Deb Ackerman, vice president for Institutional Advancement. She went on to add, “This scholarship is the result of a community effort. I believe students who receive a liberal arts education at Lincoln College are better prepared to succeed – during their continuing academic careers and in life. So, I’m delighted that this scholarship will help to make this dream a reality for even more young people.”
