Prior to LC, Managing Editor of the Illinois State Museum. Has taught science courses at colleges and universities in the United States and Australia, and at public high schools in Texas.

Other interests include science publication work, biospeleology, museums, stream field research, photography, world travel, kayaking, and pen-and-ink drawing.
