I started working in commercial broadcasting at 17 years old in my hometown of Canton, Illinois. After working in broadcasting for 18 years, I joined Lincoln College to revamp the broadcasting curriculum, including WLNX-FM. This past summer (2007), we completed our move to a brand new, state-of-the-art radio station facility at 428 Keokuk Street.
While I believe that students should understand the basic theories, concepts, and history of broadcasting, I also have found that “real world” examples and applications cannot be found in a textbook. Students who take my classes and/or work at the radio station will learn radio broadcasting “as it is,” be able to speak the language, and understand how this business has evolved to where it is today.
In addition to my work at Lincoln College, I remain involved in commercial radio, working part-time for Regent Broadcasting Company in Peoria. I also do freelance work, specializing in the implementation and maintenance of digital broadcast automation systems. |
