Celebration of Chinese New Year
The beginning of Chinese New Year is based upon the Chinese calendar which consists of both Gregorian and lunar-solar calendar systems. Because the track of the new moon changes from year to year, Chinese New Year can begin any time between late January and mid-February. 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, and the coming year, 2011, is the Year of the Rabbit. This presentation explains how different parts of China have different traditions related to Chinese New Year.
Statistics and the Everyday World
Using historical anecdotes and contemporary applications, this presentation explores vital links between statistics and our everyday world, such as in calculating batting averages and home run ratios in professional baseball. The presentation also covers the evolution of the discipline of statistics.
