WLNX-FM
About us
WLNX-FM is a student-operated radio station licensed by the Federal
Communications Commission, broadcasting with 225 watts at 88.9 on
the FM dial and reaching a 10-mile radius from the campus of Lincoln
College.
WLNX signed on the air in 1974, and for years, operated from studios
in the basement of historic University Hall. During the summer of
2007, WLNX moved to a new location one block off campus at 428 Keokuk
Street in Lincoln. The state of the art facility features two modern,
digital studios that rival most medium to large market radio stations
in Illinois.
Using the moniker “89X” the station broadcasts an “Alternative
Rock” music format targeted to a younger to middle age audience
in the Lincoln area. WLNX also features local community information
and Lincoln College sporting events.
Under the direction of Assistant Professor John Malone, a veteran
commercial radio broadcaster, a student Station Manager is appointed
each semester to supervise other students who participate.
WLNX operates in the same manner as any major commercial radio
station, utilizing industry-standard software and hardware applications.
Students are exposed to all aspects of radio broadcasting.
Students who complete a successful semester of involvement with
WLNX are awarded one (1) credit hour of “performance credit”
that counts toward graduation.
